Your Activa, Splendor or Pulsar will not self-start? The battery is the most likely reason – especially if the vehicle has been parked for a while.
Signs of a weak two-wheeler battery
- Self-start does not work, but kick-start does
- The horn sounds weak and indicators blink slowly
- The headlight dims at idle
- The digital console resets or flickers
Quick fixes to try
- Use the kick-start (most scooters and bikes still have one) and ride for 20–30 minutes to recharge the battery.
- Check that the battery terminals are tight and clean.
- If the bike has been parked for weeks, a charge may bring the battery back – but a battery older than 2–3 years usually will not recover fully.
When to replace
Replace the battery if it needs frequent kick-starts, will not hold charge overnight, is swollen or leaking, or is more than 2–3 years old. In Gurgaon's heat, two-wheeler batteries rarely last longer.
Keep your new battery healthy
- Ride at least twice a week, or use a battery maintainer if the bike stands for long.
- Avoid adding high-power accessories without checking the charging system.
- Park in the shade when you can.
